A summary of E'lan by Ryan J. Hall

The mystic energy force known as E'lan is shrouded in mystery. Created by Nether long before even the Commens' was against the Scourge, it is a very restrictive and selective energy that is found only within a few races in the entire universe. These three races play an incredibly important and vital role within the Church of the Commen and each employ it in its two forms.


-Physical: This aspect of E'lan was the first discovered. It is used soley by the Seije and Humans and is used for things such as healing and energy attacks.

-Spiritual/Psychic: When it was discovered that the Seije did not have the ability to track down the Scourge, they decided to create a race that could exploit the more underlying aspect of E'lan in its spiritual and psychic forms. This led to the creation of the Hydorans, and speculations that led the Seije to begin thinking of creating another race that could harness all aspects of E'lan. Hydorans and Humans are the only two races that can use this form of E'lan.


E'lan, in both of its forms, can become corrupted. This has led to several problems in the past for all three races, an unfortunate fact which has been made apparent in the pasts of all three races. The most prominant of these incidents were the actions of the Altruists' former Overkeeper Aeimenus Reiuuk in the form of the Paladins and the Vindiceira.


-The Paladins: Created originally by Aeimenus for use as her personal army, these mechanical super-warriors have a well-earned reputation as being the most powerful warriors in the galaxy. They are humans who have been hand-picked by the church and have gone through a rigorous and unbelievably painful process in which select parts of their bodies are seperated and reinforced by machines designed to protect the person and unlock their true E'lan potential.

-The Vindiceira: The most contreversial force used by the Church, the Vindiceira is a highly secretive and secluded organisation within the Church of the Commen. Also established by Overkeeper Aeimenus for the purpose of hunting down and destroying the Arcanists, it is comprised soley of Hydorans whose E'lan has become corrupted beyond all hope of return, resulting in mutations and powers well beyond those found normally in the three races. These powers vary from Vindicate to Vindicate, but all are related in that they strangely exhibit qualities of both aspects of E'lan.


Lastly, E'lan is one of the two energy forces in this, or any other, universe that is capable of harming the Scourge. The Netherway was created from E'lan by Nether as a way to both prevent the Scourge from quickly spreading across the universe by preventing their shift to hyperspace and to provide a safe way for the Commen to travel throughout the unvierse quickly without fear of the Scourge. The Netherway was not used by other races of the galaxy until the beginning of the Eternal Heresy and efforts are being made to establish routes through the Netherway using Phase Gates which allow ships to enter and exit the Netherway at specific points.
